After stretching both our waist lines and our wallets this holiday season, Joel and I are challenging each other with a no-spend January. What does that mean? We only spend money on two things - bills and the grocery store.

Since we are a family that enjoys two-four meals out each week, the hardest part of the no-spend month is NO restaurants. Well, as I tend to do, I’ve decided to jump into this thing with both feet and figured the only way we would be successful is to have a plan.

Enter our CULINARY ADVENTURE for the month of January.

The plan for what we will be enjoying each night.

Each night, dinner will be something new and healthy. Something the family has never tried. The plan is for very few modifications to be made to recipes and to embark on the month with a “try something different” attitude. At least that’s the plan. I do have four kids . And two adults with 35+ years of opinions on what they like and don’t.

After each meal, we will individually rate the dinner on a scale of 0-5, with “5” being ‘AMAZING, Make It Again’ and “0” being ‘I can’t get down two bites.’

My plan is to chronicle the making and eating of each meal, along with candid thoughts from my littles. With any luck, we will find a few recipes that are enjoyed, try some foods we’ve been afraid of, and have fun experiencing them together.

So let’s get started!!
